Exhibition of Works Created by Schools
May, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, 2025
Cloister of San Francesco della Vigna, Venice
Category : Educational

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Italy’s Liberation, students from schools across Venice have been invited to explore the theme ‘The Colors of Peace’ through mosaic projects developed during the school year. Now in its fourth edition, SCUOLA & MOSAICO is a project promoted by the Municipality of Venice, Murano, and Burano, with the support of Orsoni, which donates handcrafted colored mosaic tiles made in its historic furnace.
This initiative aims to bring young generations closer to the ancient art of mosaic, blending play, creativity, and traditional knowledge. The goal is to engagingly pass on a craft that represents a hallmark of Venetian identity. Thanks to the historic Orsoni furnace, active since 1888, Venice continues to be a global reference for the production of high-quality mosaics.
The artistic journey invites participants to reflect on the universal values of peace, solidarity, and coexistence, offering a unique educational experience that combines tradition, art, and shared values. The project is addressed to 4th and 5th grade Primary School classes, as well as to Lower and Upper Secondary Schools.
As in previous years, the workshop will take place directly in the classrooms. Using mosaic tiles produced by Orsoni, young artists will create panels inspired by the symbols and colors of peace, transforming their ideas and positive thoughts into collective works of art.
Peace is not just a historical theme linked to Liberation, it is a timeless value that resonates in daily life and human relationships. The mosaics created during the workshops will be exhibited in the evocative cloister of San Francesco della Vigna on May 24–25, 2025. The exhibition will celebrate the creativity and commitment of the young participants, alongside a rich program of activities taking place over the two days. It will be a special moment for families, schools, and the entire community.
Peace is the most beautiful mosaic we can build together!
